Training

Just one of the many highlights at Section Conclave is the training! Participants will have the opportunity to take three training sessions during the morning at the 2012 Section Conclave. Trainers are hand selected to ensure quality training. In fact, most of the trainers will be past Section, Region, and National officers. Arrowmen who participate are guaranteed to get something out of each training session. Below are the available training sessions.

Training Session 1 (9:00AM-9:45AM)

OA Orientation : The fast pace of your ordeal, may have overwhelmed you with traditions of our order. The excitement of your first event afterwards may have left you wanting more. This course will set you on the right path to flourish in the OA, answer those questions and tell you where you can find more great things that the OA has to offer. Showing our newer members they way of the arrow.

Patch Design : Every Scouter knows of that one patch that scouts will trade nearly an arm and a leg for. Learn some basic principles of design that will set your patch apart. Learn some of the basic principles of design program and work on a couple of your own patch designs.

Talking to Those Pesky/Tricky Adults : Not all scouts are young “wipper-snappers”, and not all adults are father time. Our advisers are here to help us and the youth are here to learn and grow. Find a healthy middle ground between the two to create a potent leadership team, rather than being at each others throats.

Training Session 2 (10:00AM-10:45AM)

OA Troop Rep/Setting the Hook (Retention) : We all know how great the OA is; however, there are some out there who see the sash as merely an award, earn it and leave never to be seen again. Go fishing for new arrowmen. Learn how to keep the sash and dashers at bay, and to get the best out of your new ordeal members

Time Management/How to Produce Quality Under Pressure : The call… late at night… two days before an event… your event chairman has comedown with the flu and doesn’t have anything ready. We can teach you how to handle that situation and still pull off a quality event that everyone will be talking about for weeks. People always ask for 25 hours in a day, join us for this course and you will need to reset your watch.

Keeping Those “YAMs” Around :  Even though they are Adults in the BSA 18-21 year olds are still youth within the lodge. As they have seen a little more of what the order has to offer, they can inspire and share a great deal with newer arrowman. Even though they have this great amount of knowledge, they end o disappear and rarely come back. Retention at this point is just as important as retention after ordeal.

Training Session 3 (11:00AM-11:45AM)

OA in the 21st Century : Even though our advisers still like to send us messages via carrier pigeons, the youth of today on the other hand like to use texts, Facebook, e-mails. Learn how to use these effectively, without loosing that personal touch.

OA History/What it Means to be an Arrowman : In three short years our order will be 100 years old, yet very few of us know our lineage.  Travel back to treasure island 1915 and grow with the order to the 21st century. By understanding where you came from, you will better understand where our order is headed and what you can do as an Arrowman to help us get there

Lodge Strengtheners/Chapter Competition : A little friendly competition never hurt anyone. If you want to bolster attendance, get everybody excited for your next event with a competition between your chapters, arrowmen, or officers. Learn that by giving a little bit of yourself,  everyone else will transform into the best arrowman they can be.
